National  Support Resources

Patients and health care professionals agree that having strong emotional support during a life-threatening illness is imperative for achieving optimum outcomes. In the past there has been very little available in the way of support for lung cancer patients. Fortunately, today there are a growing number of organizations that provide emotional and medical support via telephone and online.

These organizations can offer assistance in learning how to cope with a lung cancer diagnosis.  Regain control and maintain hope; you are not alone!

Lung Cancer Alliance
Based in Washington, D.C., this national lung cancer advocacy and support organization is dedicated to patient support and empowerment for those living with lung cancer and others at risk for the disease.  They advocate for increased research funding and early screening and offer a  phone buddy program that matches patients with others who have similar diagnoses.  Lung Cancer Alliance also offers patients and caregivers support through an online community, Lung Love Link.

A Chicago-based lung cancer awareness group, dedicated to providing patient support and funding innovative lung cancer research.  It is committed to increasing quality-of-life and survivorship by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments.  LUNGevity boasts the largest online lung cancer support network providing users with an extensive message board, the latest lung cancer information, 24-hour support, a card circle program, and notice for lung cancer events and advocacy opportunities that fund LUNGevity’s lung cancer research.

GRACE (Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education)
Based in Seattle, Washington, GRACE is a nonprofit organization that was developed as a means of improving the overall medical care for cancer patients by democratizing cutting edge information on optimal cancer management and providing it directly to patients.  GRACE provides a physician driven website focused on information about diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, as well as other cancers.  In addition, there is also a nice balance of patient support via blog Q&A, discussion forums, videos and online information.
